What lies beneath your feet.. Empty
PostSubject: What lies beneath your feet..   What lies beneath your feet.. EmptyMon Oct 31, 2011 12:14 pm

Turning out of the basement Dimitri made his way to the short flight of steps that led to the corridor and rooms upstairs. He had already had to do this once, after everyone had got branded. However then there had been a whole group of them at once, and he had never been able to pay much attention to the building itself.

Looking around he noticed the corridor wasn't very big, the stairs taking up much of the room. The door to the basement was behind him, and the basement was such a large room by comparison to the ones upstairs that he assumed it took up most of this floor.

The room wasn't lit very well- the only light came from upstairs and it only lit up half of the room. Much of the room’s corners were in complete shadow, and it was only by chance as he looked back on the room that he noticed a door in a dark corner. Hesitantly looking back at the closed door of the basement where the Villain still was, he crept towards it.

The first thing he noticed was the smell.... although he had never smelt it before, its sharp scent instantly made him feel nauseous. He covered his nose to try and hide the scent, but it was as if he could taste it. Looking up at the door he noticed a "0" written on it, like the others upstairs numbered 1- 10. It reminded him of the key in his pocket, which he fumbled around looking for.
He checked the key.. a matching 0 was engraved in the metal, just like the one he had just been given for room 1 except a different number. It was obvious that this was the key for this door, but he was unsure if he wanted to know what was inside. Thinking he probably wouldn’t have the chance to do so again, he quickly turned the key in the lock.

The door itself was old, and it took a lot of force to get it to open where its hinges had become stiff. The smell that was only faint before became overwhelming once the door was opened, and Dimitri coughed as the smell lingered on his tongue. He peered inside but the room was dark, too dark to make out anything inside. However knowing the Villain would probably leave the basement any second, he shut the door behind him, figuring that he had both the keys so he would be able to leave at any time easily.

As he walked inside he heard a crack where he placed his foot, making him jump. He moved out of the way, not even daring to breathe as the smell was so strong with the door shut. He reached out and found a light switch, but as soon as he could see he instantly wished he hadn't. The room was small, around half the size of the rooms upstairs, but packed inside were bodies.. so many it seemed amazing they were all in here, just dumped and left. The oldest, now skeletons, lay lying in pieces. What he had stepped on turned out to be a bone of some sort, maybe a hand, but he was no expert. At a glance he could count around 30 or so skeletons, maybe more.

What was worse were the more recent bodies.. the ones he could start to recognise who obviously hadn't fully decomposed, and he could count at least 10. The room was underground, cool and dry acting like a refridgerator- at best since he had got there the bones would start to appear as the skin began to decay, and the wounds opened up even more so, eroding away the surrounding flesh. Those more recent, who had died in the last month or so, were pretty much the same as when they had died, if you didn't start to look too closely. But their wounds were horrifying enough.

He recognised various faces, but who stood out the most was Jane, who was in such a horrid state that he had to look away instantly. Thumbelina was there too, obviously dragged from the garden, as well as other faces such as Esmeralda and Ariel and the people from the deaths on the television. Bracing himself against the wall he tried not to gag at the scent, or cry at the fact that Jane was here. The room was like hell, and he desperately tried to leave the way he had come.

Dimitri didn't come far after opening the door. John had just left the basement, and heard the suspicious noise, and he was now standing face to face with a panic struck Dimitri.
The look on John's face was a mixture of surprice and hatred, but mostly surprice.
The endless questions in his mind rumbled together, with no way of getting out.
His face was turning redder by the second, and he could not remember the last time he had been so angry since Megara and Sinbad in room 8, and maybe not even then.
His mouth opened and closed, with no words coming out. He simply did not know what to say. He could see his reflection in Dimitri's wide eyes and knew he looked far from his normal, charming self. Dimitri did not look well himself, as his sweat glued his hair to his forehead, his dry lips parted in a shocked gasp and his breath running, if possible, even more rapidly than John's.
The key was still in the door as Dimitri had not thought to take it with him. John quickly grasped it before taking one last, hateful glare at Dimitri and shutting the door in his face. He locked it and walked towards the stairs in a steady, yet rageful walk.
Who else had been in the suitcase - and what had they found?
That was the only question in John's mind. What?

The door slammed in his face. and he was left alone with the bodies, staring back at him from hollow eyes. He wanted to bang on the door, and shout not to be left here. Being stuck in this place seemed worse than any punishment the Villain could throw at him. But he couldn't say anything now- the look in his eyes meant he daren't utter a word.

He didn't know what to do, instead resting against the door. Everywhere he stepped seemed to be another body. He couldn't sit on the floor as there was simply no space.

'So' he said to himself, his voice croaky, 'this is where I will end up.' He wouldn't be suprised if the Villain would just leave him here to die, rather than actually bother to kill him. Afterall, any long period of time in here seemed worse than any torture.

He purposely kept his eyes off Jane, but he apoligised quietly. 'I'm sorry I couldn't get us out of here...' he whispered, unaware he had begun to cry.

He rested his head against the door and shut his eyes, trying to pretend that their faces weren't still watching him.

[OOC: Seeing as you never moved me *stares at Ylva* I think I might as well post some more angsty ramblings ^^]

Dimitri woke up... at some point the hours had started to blur together and he had slept regardless of the faces and pairs of dead eyes watching his every move. He had been resting against the door, but his cheek was lying against the floor when he awoke meaning the first thing his eyes met was the bones of a hand, outstretched from the pile of bodies it presumably came from, the rest of the skeleton buried somewhere underneath the pile of flesh. He shuddered and looked away, sitting up and against the door as fast as he could, going back to his usual position huddled up with his knees resting against his chin and his hands covering his eyes.

The Villain had left him for more than a day now, that he was sure of. And he was certain he would continue to leave him here, regardless of what he had whispered to him in the basement before all this had happened. He was sure he was just as disposable as the rest of them, and this was worst than death in some ways.

He tried to talk but he couldn't- his mouth dry and voice weak. He was also too hungry to move, although the smell of this place meant if he swallowed anything he would probably just throw it up sooner or later. He couldn't even cry, or grieve over Jane or anyone else in here. He just felt numb, as if all his pain and emotion had been replaced with overwhelming loss. He felt hollow.. and was willing to die in here and just be left with everyone else, if only it would hurry up and happen soon.
